Christopher Newport Women's Cross Country Takes Fifth at NCAA South/Southeast Regionals; Cromwell Qualifies for Nationals

Christopher Newport placed fifth and senior Lydia Cromwell qualified for nationals for the Captains with a strong individual finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Women's Cross Country Regional championship on Saturday, headlining CAC performers at the regional meets. 

CNU and Mary Washington represented the CAC at the South/Southeast Regional in Kernstown, Va., while York, Salisbury, St. Mary's and Frostburg State all competed at the Mideast Regional in Newville, Pa. 

South/Southeast Regional | Kernstown, Va. 

The Captains took fifth in the team standings with 146 points, led by Cromwell's 11th-place effort that earned a spot in the national championship meet. Cromwell finished as CNU's top regional finisher for the second straight year, crossing in 22:52.7 to earn All-Region recognition. She is CNU's first women's individual qualifier since Jade Zaharoff in 2011. 

Other CNU runners to earn All-Region included Logan Harrington (27th/23:29.7), Abigail May (33rd/23:49.2) and Graciela Slyer (34th/23:49.7). Hannah Bullen also notched a top-50 mark for the Captains, claiming 44th at 24:10.6. 

Mary Washington took ninth place with a team total of 276 points, paced by Claudia Autore's 35th-place finish. Autore earned All-Region accolades with her time of 23:49.8. Colleen Boyle finished 43rd for the Eagles with a time of 24:04.9. 

Mideast Regional | Newville, Pa. 

York was the top CAC team in the standings, finishing 12th with 359 points. Alicia Dillman paced the Spartans in 27th with a mark of 22:57.1 to claim All-Region honors. Kathleen Cannon finished 71st and Jessica Delvisicio took 72nd for the Spartans. 

Salisbury finished 21st with 632 points, led by Jamie Farley in 111th, while St. Mary's took 45th and Frostburg State had a pair of individuals compete.
