Mary Washington Women's Cross Country Runs Away with Seahawk Invitational in Preview of CAC Championship
In a preview of the 2015 CAC Cross Country Championship meet, Mary Washington ran away with the women's title at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by St. Mary's at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum on Saturday.
The Eagles totaled claimed five of the top six spots and totaled just 19 points to roll to the title in the 11-team field. The field featured eight of the 10 CAC teams.
UMW's Lauren Braney claimed individual gold with a time of 23:55, defeating second-place Jessica Lane from Salisbury by 23 seconds.
UMW then nabbed spots three through six in the pecking order, with Claudia Autore, Emily Knerr, Samantha Park and Victoria Parent securing third through sixth, respectively.
Lane and Salisbury finished second with 58 points, out-distancing third place Catholic (100) by over 40 points Laura Hartman (11th), Jamie Farley (13th), and Jill Ciritella (14th) all registered top-15 finishes for the Sea Gulls.
Marymount placed fourth with 114 points, followed by St. Mary's in fifth with 162, Wesley in sixth with 166, York in ninth at 243, Frostburg State in 10th at 265 and Penn State Harrisburg in 11th at 320.
Marymount was led by a seventh-placed mark from Gina Reyes, who finished with a time of 24:45. Payton Bodecker also turned in a top-10 finish for the Saints, placing 10th at 24:49.
Wesley's Dieunise Desir and St. Mary's Halcyon Ruskin each posted solid finishes for their squads, taking 16th and 17th, respectively, in the field of 90 runners.
Christopher Newport and Southern Virginia were the only CAC squads not to run in the Seahawk Invitational this weekend.
CNU competed at the William & Mary Invitational on Friday, finishing third in a field of five teams. Logan Harrington was the team's top finisher as she came in 15th overall while helping CNU collect 86 points.
Southern Virginia traveled to the Maroon Invitational at Roanoke, taking second out of the six teams. The Knights grabbed four of the top six finishes in the 45-person field, paced by Leah Huber in second at 21:04.30 on the 5k course.
