Marymount Women's Cross Country Wins Salisbury Fall Classic

The Marymount women's cross country team captured the title at the Salisbury Fall Classic on Saturday to headline the seven squads in action at four separate meets over Labor Day Weekend. 

The Saints totaled 46 points to outlast second-place Salisbury (58) by 12 points. Melissa Teeple led the way with a second-place finish in just under nine seconds behind first place. Gina Reyes and Denise Gallant raced in their first 6k for the Saints, both crossing the finish line in the top 10. Reyes tabbed sixth place with a time of 24:09.66, while Gallant came in at 10th place with a time of 24:23.79. 

Salisbury placed two runners in the top 10, with Jessica Lane in seventh at 24:12 and Jill Ciritella six seconds behind in eighth. 

Southern Virginia took fourth at the Salisbury Fall Classic, totaling 104 points. Leah Huber finished in fifth place for the Knights, piecing together the fastest 6k time in the Knights' NCAA Division III era and the first time under the 24-minute mark. 

Halcyon Ruskin had an impressive debut for St. Mary's at Salisbury, taking 13th out of 80 competitors while the Seahawks came in seventh in the nine-team field. 

Frostburg State competed at the Galen Piper Challenge at Shippensburg on Friday and the Westmoreland Invitational on Saturday. Jayla Jones recorded the top Bobcats finish of the weekend in eighth place (26:13) at Westmoreland. 

York also ran at the Galen Piper Challenge, taking seventh place with 212 points. York's top four finishers placed consecutively, led by Alayna DeBruin in 52nd place with a time of 16:55. 

Penn State Harrisburg finished ninth out of nine teams at the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen Invitational on Saturday. Ashley Peart was the top finisher for the Lions in 50th at 21:58. 

 

Coach Davis was referring to the 23:51 time of senior Leah Huber, who finished fifth, overall, marking the fastest 6K time in the NCAA D-III era and first race under 24 minutes.
