York Races to Second Straight CAC Women's Cross Country Title; Southern Virginia's Morgan Bingham Wins Individual Crown

Results 

The York women's cross country team captured its second straight Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion in Newport News, Va., led by a balanced efforts with four Spartan runners in the top 10. The Spartans totaled 51 points to edge out second-place Salisbury (60 points) and third-place Mary Washington (65 points). 

Christopher Newport finished fourth with 98 points, followed by Southern Virginia (111 points) in fifth place. St. Mary's (169 points), Marymount (195 points), Frostburg State (223 points), Wesley (268 points) and Penn State Harrisburg (301 points) rounded out the team scores. 

Southern Virginia secured the top two placings in the championship, led by freshman Morgan Bingham in first place with a 6k time of 22:52.5. SVU junior Sydney Bigelow finished in second place at 23:08.6 to give the Knights a strong one-two punch at the top of the individual results. Bingham became the first runner in conference history to claim both the Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards. 

Another all-around team effort helped York to its second straight crown, highlighted by junior Jess DelViscio's third-place finish. Sophomore Kristi Wandzilak (6th place), sophomore Rachel Banchiere (9th place), and junior Alayna DeBruin (10th place) also recorded top-10 finishes for the Spartans. 

Second-place Salisbury was led by senior Alison Schwartz in eighth place, while junior Carly Sniffen (11th place), sophomore Abby Potter (12th place), freshman Liana Foianini (13th place), and sophomore Ashley Mazer (16th place) also posted top-16 placings for the Sea Gulls to earn All-CAC recognition. 

Mary Washington junior Jillian Weisbeck led the Eagles with a fourth-place finish, while freshman Maggie Larkin took seventh and junior Emily Knerr placed 15th. 

York head coach Stephen LoBianco was honored by his peers as the CAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
