YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Tommy Vitaletti and Frostburg State sophomore Greg Schneider were named the CAC Baseball Players of the Week for Feb. 23, 2016.

Christopher Newport senior Tommy Vitaletti was named the CAC Player of the Week after posting a scalding hot start to 2016 for the 5-0 Captains. Vitaletti is hitting .700 (14-for-20) with 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He registered back-to-back 5-hit games against Rutgers-Newark and drove in eight runs in one of those games, becoming just the second CNU player in history to post 8 RBIs or more in a game. He has six extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs, and is slugging 1.250 to start the year. He is a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen bases, already has 25 total bases and leads the CAC in nearly every offensive statistical category (runs, hits, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, SLG) so far this season.

Frostburg State sophomore righthander Greg Schneider was named CAC Pitcher of the Week after striking out 14 batters in 7.2 innings of work against Stevenson in the Bobcats' season opener. Schneider fanned 14 of 23 batters he faced, including two or more batters in five innings. He scattered two hits and walked just one batter in his shutout performance.

Salisbury is ranked No. 4 in the D3baseball.com Preseason Rankings, while Frostburg State is 10th and Mary Washington is receiving votes ... In the Collegiate Baseball poll, Salisbury is No. 4, Frostburg State is No. 28 and Mary Washington is No. 29 ... Christopher Newport (5-0), Mary Washington (4-0) and Frostburg State (3-0) sport unblemished records so far this year ... CNU has scored 62 runs in five games, for an average of 12.4 runs per game. This is the third time in the last four years the Captains have started 5-0 ... Frostburg State's KJ Hockaday hit .571 over the three-game opening weekend. In the Bobcats' 10-1 win over Stevenson, Hockaday drove in four runs behind a second-inning grand slam ... Sophomore David Slupek opened the 2016 season with eight hits, including three doubles and a triple, driving in nine runs as Mary Washington opened the season with four straight wins last week. The sophomore first baseman hit .533 on the week, as the Eagles racked up 53 runs in the four contests. He walked once and struck out just once in 16 plate appearances. In four games, Eagle pitching has yet to allow an earned run, walking 11 and striking out 37 in 28 innings ... Marymount is 4-2 on the year with a sweep of Southern Vermont and wins over Washington & Lee and Hood. Junior Brandon Orbe leads the Saints in batting average, slugging percentage, doubles, and hits. Freshman pitcher Connor Hall has earned two wins, one as a starter and one in relief, and maintains a 1.69 ERA through 10.2 innings ... Penn State Harrisburg is 3-1 with a sweep of Gallaudet and a win over Stevenson. Connor Bowers batted .385 with five RBIs in the four games ... After an 0-3 start to the season, St. Mary's evened its record with a three-game sweep of Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.). Connor Goodie was part of the turnaround as Goodie batted .462 with six hits, five runs, two doubles, two walks, one triple, and one RBI. He currently leads the team with a slugging percentage of .769 and an on-base percentage of .533 ... Salisbury dropped a pair of games to No. 1 Cortland State last weekend. Pete Grasso went 4-for-8 for the Sea Gulls with a .600 on-base percentage ... Ryan Saunders leads Southern Virginia with a .348 batting average and five RBIs through seven games. The Knights are 3-4 on the year ... Wesley's Trevor Mears went 10-for-20 (.500) with six RBIs and six stolen bases in a 2-2 opening weekend for the Wolverines at the Floyd B. Wilcox Tournament ... York's Zach Hossler hit a team-best .444 with five runs scored, four RBIs and a .889 slugging percentage in a 1-2 opening weekend for the Spartans at the Piedmont College Early Spring Classic in Demorest, Ga. Logan Countryman delivered a walk-off grand slam against Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday to hand the Spartans a dramatic 13-11 win in 12 innings.
