YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury junior Courtney Jantzen and York senior Katie Petrillo have been honored as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Sept. 8, 2014. 

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury junior Courtney Jantzen was awarded as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after putting up 12 points in a pair of wins this week for the Sea Gulls. Jantzen tallied a goal and an assist against Hendrix on Saturday, before scoring four times with an assist in the Sea Gulls' win against Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday, becoming the first Sea Gull to score four times in a game since 2009. She was nearly perfect on shot attempts, scoring five goals on just seven shots. 

Defensive Player of the Week

York senior Katie Petrillo was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Spartans to a pair of wins, including their first win over Gettysburg since 1985. In the win over the Bullets, she steadied a defense that held the Bullets scoreless over the final 23 minutes of the game as the Spartans snapped a 12-match losing streak to their neighbors to the west. In the shutout win over Eastern Mennonite, she recorded a pair of defensive saves, including one when the Spartans led just 1-0 midway through the first half.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE 

CAC teams continued their hot starts to the 2014 season, as all seven teams boast a combined record of 22-5 ... Salisbury is #2, Christopher Newport #4 and Mary Washington #16 in the NFHCA Preseason Rankings ... Christopher Newport senior Belle Tunstall became the program's all-time leader in career points after notching six in the team's three games last week.  Her career total now sits at 104 points, while she is also tied for first in career assists with 30 ...  Mary Washington junior Haley Kane notched three goals and three assists in the Eagles' win over Roanoke. Kane also dished out two assists in a tight 4-3 loss to #8 Franklin & Marshall ... Wesley held Virginia Wesleyan without a single shot attempt in its 1-0 win on Saturday ... York posted wins over Gettysburg and Eastern Mennonite to match its season win total of last year at four.
