FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport junior Rachael Allshouse and Salisbury sophomore Lindsey Elgin were honored as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Sept. 25, 2017.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Rachael Allshouse earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Captains with three goals and six points in victories over Randolph-Macon and Washington & Lee. Against the Yellow Jackets, she capped off the scoring with a second-half strike to seal the 2-0 win. On Saturday, she took over the team- and conference-lead in goals with a pair of strikes against the Generals. Along with registering her sixth and seventh goals of the year, she was also credited with her fourth game-winning strike of the season against W&L. 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury sophomore Lindsey Elgin was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the SU defense surrendering just 17 totals shots (and eight on goal) in a pair of wins last week. In Salisbury's 2-1 overtime road win at No. 3 The College of New Jersey, Elgin came up with her first career defensive save, keeping the game scoreless in the 51st minute, allowing Salisbury to come up with the big win.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Sept. 19 Rankings, Salisbury is ranked No. 4, Mary Washington is No. 14, Christopher Newport is No. 17, and York is receiving votes ... Brittan Muir anchored the CNU defense and played all 140 minutes during the team's victories over Randolph-Macon and Washington & Lee. Against the Yellow Jackets, she helped the Captains register their third straight shutout while limiting RMC to just three shots and two penalty corners. On Saturday, Muir and the defense were equally stingy, holding W&L to a single penalty corner and only three on-target shots. Overall, Christopher Newport's opposition mustered only nine total shots, including four on-target, during the week ... Junior Holly Van Wie scored two goals on the week for Frostburg State. She scored the game-winner in Frostburg's 6-0 defeat of Hood and added the only goal against Bridgewater ... Mary Washington dropped contests at Washington & Lee and against #5 Tufts in overtime this week ... Courtney Mellon collected her first career hat trick in leading St. Mary's to a 1-1 week. Mellon notched all three of her goals, including the game-winner, in a 5-0 rout of Neumann. She now leads the Seahawks with 13 points and six goals. Alyssa Thompson recorded the team's second shutout win of the season with two saves in the win over Neumann ... Salisbury sophomore Arielle Johnston recorded one goal and one assist in Salisbury's overtime road win at No. 3 The College of New Jersey, She had the assist on Salisbury's goal late in regulation that looked like it would determine the match, but the Lions scored just before the end of regulation, forcing overtime. Two minutes into the extra session, she was able to collect the rebound from a blocked shot and put home the game winner ... Kasey Fry netted two goals and an assist for Wesley in four games last week. She also recorded two defensive saves. She currently sits tied for third in the CAC in defensive saves (3). Kaila Hindt paced Wesley's week with three goals and three assists. She is currently tied second in the CAC in assists (4) ... York senior Ali Posey continues to climb the Spartans' all-time scoring chart as she led the Spartans to a 1-1 week. Posey began the week with a pair of assists in the Green and White's 8-2 win over Elizabethtown at home on Wednesday. She followed that with the Spartans' two goals in their 3-2 overtime road loss at Lynchburg which snapped a five game Spartan win streak. She now has 110 points on 47 goals and 16 assists and is now five points away from tying former Spartan standout April McFarland for second on the all-time scoring list. Posey passed Spartan Hall of Famer and all-time leading scorer Jaclyn Russell for second on the goal scoring list with her two goals on Friday at Lynchburg. Posey is now just six goals behind McFarland for the career goal scored record.
