York Freshman Tyler Newton Named CAC Golfer of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- York freshman Tyler Newton was honored as the CAC Golfer of the Week for Sept. 23, 2015.

York freshman Tyler Newton was named CAC Golfer of the Week after recording an average of 74.5 strokes per round in two tournaments this fall. In his first collegiate tournament on Sept. 12-13 at the Tom Kinder Memorial, Newton shot a two-day total of 154, firing rounds of 79-75. He followed that up with a third-place individual finish at the Penn State Harrisburg Invitational, posting a two-day total of 144. He fired a one-under-par 71 in round one and notched a one-over 73 in the final round, helping the Spartans tie for second place out of the 10 competing teams.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All seven CAC golf teams have opened their fall 2015 campaigns ... Penn State Harrisburg holds the lowest team scoring average so far this fall, averaging 299.2 strokes per round ... In Christopher Newport's only action so far, the Captains finished 17th in a highly-competitive field at the Flower City NCAA Division III Tournament Preview. Senior Matt DiSalvo finished tied for 27th with a 154 (79-75) in the rain-shortened event ... New Jersey City freshman No. 1 golfer Alexander Sill shot a +8 round of 80 and finished 23rd overall as NJCU set a school record for low 18-hole score on a par 72 course (354) at the Moravian Fall Invitational on Sept. 14. Sill was one shot off the individual program mark for 18 holes on a par-72 course, owned by head coach Brian Ferrante (79). The next day, Sill placed second in a field of 15 golfers in a tri-match with Purchase and The King's College, shooting a +15 round of 85 on the par-71 Brynwood Golf and Country Club. He was two shots off the lead.
