Christopher Newport Senior John Thompson and Wesley Freshman Josh Dean Earn CAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior John Thompson and Wesley freshman Josh Dean were awarded as the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for Feb. 17, 2015.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior John Thompson was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Captains to a 13-9 upset victory at No. 15 Washington & Lee with a career-high five goals in the season opener last Friday. He kicked off the scoring early in the opening period and added another first-half goal on the way to a 6-3 halftime lead. Later, he put the game away with three goals in the fourth quarter, including the final tally to ice the victory. Overall, he uncorked seven shots and found the back of the net on five of them. With that performance, he moved into second all-time on the program's career points list with 106.

Wesley freshman Josh Dean earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording 14 saves in Wesley's season-opening win over Ferrum in snowy conditions. Dean allowed just four goals in the Wolverines' 11-4 triumph for a save percentage of 77.8%.

Salisbury is ranked No. 3 in the USILA Preseason Rankings, while York is ranked No. 11 and Mary Washington receiving votes ... In the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Week 1 Rankings, Salisbury is ranked No. 6, York No. 12, Christopher Newport No. 16 and Mary Washington No. 20 ... Mary Washington defeated Hampden-Sydney, 14-13, on Saturday. Senior Greg Smith scored the game-winner with 21 seconds left and senior Jack Bondurant had five goals for the Eagles ... Southern Virginia's Casey Rich had three goals against Shenandoah and two against Hood ... Wesley's Sam Seibert scored all four of his career-high goals in the first quarter of the Wolverines 11-4 win over Ferrum ... Salisbury's Marty Wallace forced six caused turnovers and five groundballs in the Sea Gulls opening two games, while Chris Joyce scored a career-high six goals in the Sea Gulls' 24-1 win over Greensboro.
