St. Mary's Senior Conor Jordan and Christopher Newport Junior Matt Hayden Earn CAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's senior Conor Jordan and Christopher Newport junior Matt Hayden were awarded as the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 1, 2016.   

Offensive Player of the Week

St. Mary's senior Conor Jordan was honored as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying career-highs of five assists and seven points in leading the Seahawks to their first win of 2016, an 11-10 overtime triumph over Oberlin. Jordan had a hand in seven of the Seahawk's 11 scores with his two-goal, five-assist outing. He notched a goal and three assists in the fourth quarter to help St. Mary's overcome a two-goal deficit at the start of the fourth. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Matt Hayden claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting a save percentage of 73.7% and a 5.10 goals against average in wins over Randolph-Macon and Hampden-Sydney last week. Against Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, Hayden tied his career-high with 17 saves while allowing just four goals. His 17 saves are also tied for sixth on the program's all-time single-game list. Three days later, he allowed only six goals with 11 stops against Hampden-Sydney. He made four of those saves and caused a turnover during man-down situations as he helped the defense overcome 12 penalties. He also collected five ground balls during the week.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury is ranked No. 2 in both the USILA and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings. York is ranked No. 20 in the USILA poll and receiving votes in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll, while Frostburg State is receiving votes from the USILA ... Salisbury (3-0), Frostburg State (3-0) and York (3-0) remain unbeaten this spring ... Frostburg State's Ethan Aiken totaled nine points in the Bobcats' 2-0 week. His best effort came with a four-goal/four-assist outing in the Bobcats' 17-4 victory over Mount Union ... St. Mary's Jackson Patrican finished with career-bests of seven ground balls and five caused turnovers against Oberlin. Patrican was instrumental in the win as he caused Oberlin's 29th turnover and scooped up the ground ball with 3:04 left in OT, leading the transition towards the game-winning goal just 1:07 into overtime ... Salisbury defeated No. 5 Gettysburg 10-7 in a battle of top-five squads. Nathan Blondino tallied three goals and an assist while Duncan Campbell dominated at the faceoff X, going 13-for-17 (76.5 percent) to help the control the possession battle for Salisbury ... Southern Virginia's Payton Kimber scored two goals in a 13-10 loss to Bridgewater on Saturday, and also led the team with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. He ranks second on the team with seven goals this season ... Wesley finished the week 1-1, falling to Arcadia 15-5 on Wednesday before rebounding with a 12-10 victory over Immaculata. Jack Redefer finished with seven goals on the week, including five against Immaculata. Sam Seibert was held scoreless against Arcadia, but bounced back with three goals and two assists against the Mighty Macs on Saturday. Cody Ireland made 10 saves in the Wolverines' victory Saturday to earn his first collegiate win in net ... York's Andrew Gamble led the Spartans to their third victory to start the season on Saturday against McDaniel with a team-high four goals. The four goals moved Gamble into a tie with his brother Josh for second on the Spartans' all-time goal scoring list with 120. He also passed Josh for second on the all-time points list with 176 points. Gamble leads the team in scoring with 13 points on nine goals and four assists. Joey Fiorino scooped up a career-high 10 ground balls and tallied three caused turnovers for the Spartans. For the year, Fiorino leads the team with 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. The Spartan defense is allowing just 2.6 goals per game in their three wins.
