YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington junior Brandon Griffin was selected as the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Sept. 30, 2015.

Mary Washington junior Brandon Griffin was selected as the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after advancing to the finals of his bracket at the Navy Invitational, a tournament featuring all Division I competition aside from the Eagles. Griffin was the top finisher for UMW, defeating a trio of opponents before falling in the title match. He defeated Blaise Castleberry of Delaware, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-0, then topped Mac Rechan of Georgetown, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. He then beat Tucker Massey of Navy, 7-5, 6-3, before falling in the final to Elliott Loubataille of UMBC, 6-2, 6-3.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC squads competed last week in final tune-ups prior to the ITA Southeast Regional Championships ... Mary Washington will host the ITA's in Fredericksburg, Va. this Saturday through Monday ... Frostburg State's Marcus Bowers opened the season for the Bobcats with two wins in two singles matches at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational. Bowers won both No. 4 singles matches against Waynesburg and Marietta. He also finished 1-1 in No. 2 doubles matches ... York's Aaron Marti picked up a pair of wins in the Spartans' lone match of the week as they defeated Penn State Abington 6-3 on Sunday. Marti teamed up with C.J. Weigle for a 8-6 third doubles win, and won the No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-4 to secure the win for the Spartans. Marti is now 3-0 in singles play and 2-0 when teamed with Weigle in doubles.
