YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Scoop Simon and Salisbury senior Annah Brittingham were honored as the CAC Softball Players of the Week for March 8, 2016.

Christopher Newport senior Scoop Simon was named the CAC Player of the Week after batting .750 (6-for-8) with an on-base percentage of .857 in a 4-0 week for the unbeaten and second-ranked Captains. Simon recorded at least one hit and one walk in all four games, and notched an RBI and a stolen base in three of the four contests. For the week, she totaled five RBIs, six runs scored, six walks, three stolen bases, a home run and no strikeouts while slugging 1.250.

Salisbury senior Annah Brittingham was tabbed as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after allowing just two hits in eight innings with a 0.00 ERA in a pair of victories over Clarkson. Brittingham held her opponents to just a .077 batting average and recorded eight combined strikeouts in her two outings, including one complete-game effort.

In the NFCA March 2 rankings, Christopher Newport is No. 2 with one first-place vote, while Salisbury is No. 11 ... Christopher Newport is 10-0 on the year as the lone unbeaten in the conference ... CNU swept Randolph-Macon and Shenandoah last week. Hanah Marshall won two games and is now 4-0 on the year. She allowed just three hits and struck out four in a shutout of Shenandoah on Sunday. Scoop Simon tops the Captains this season in average, home runs, runs scored, and runs batted in ... Frostburg State's Hannah Tavik picked up a pair of wins in two appearances at The Beach Blast over the weekend. She fanned three in 4.1 innings of work for a 5-4 win over Roanoke, and followed it up with eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings in a 11-2 victory over Keuka ... Junior Olivia Tatara led Mary Washington last week on their spring trip to Myrtle Beach, with nine hits, including three doubles and a triple, for a .450 batting average. She scored four runs and added four RBI, and didn't strike out in 20 at bats. Sophomore Courtney Merson led the Eagles in the pitcher's circle, allowing a pair of earned runs in 14 innings while walking seven and striking out 19. She gained a the tough-luck loss to Division II West Virginia State on Tuesday, and gained a 10-2 win over Eastern University on Thursday. Her ERA for the week stood at 1.00 ... Salisbury's Kim Dorsey had two hits in each of Salisbury's three wins last weekend, batting .667 (6-for-9) on the week. She notched 10 RBIs in the three games, including a two-run home run for the final play of the weekend in an 8-0 win against TCNJ ... York is off to its best 10-game start since 2011 as the Spartans went 7-3 on their spring trip to Clermont, Fla. Melissa Jurkiewicz went 3-1 in the circle with 28 strikeouts, four walks and an ERA of 0.51 in 27.2 innings for the Spartans during their spring trip. York posted a 7-3 mark on the trip. Savannah Zittle hit .517 (15-for-29) with five runs scored, eight RBI, three doubles, and a triple. For the season, Zittle is hitting .486 with nine RBI, five runs scored, three doubles, a triple, a .629 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base average.
