Southern Virginia Freshman Megan Stapley and Christopher Newport Senior Maiven McKnight Earn CAC Softball Weekly Awards
YORK, Pa. -- Southern Virginia freshman Megan Stapley and Christopher Newport senior Maiven McKnight were selected as the CAC Softball Players of the Week for March 21, 2017.

Southern Virginia freshman Megan Stapley earned CAC Player of the Week honors after leading the Knights to a 4-0 week with a .667 batting average (10-for-15) with 10 RBIs and six runs scored. Stapley notched four extra-base hits including two doubles, a triple, and a home run, totaling a 1.133 slugging percentage. Her top performance of the week came in game one against Trinity (D.C.), as she hit for the cycle with six RBIs and four runs scored. She managed at least two hits in each contest and also swiped a pair of bases for the week.

Christopher Newport senior Maiven McKnight was honored as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete-game two-hit shutout victory over Roanoke in her only appearance of the week. McKnight walked just one batter in the 2-0 Captains' win.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE
Numerous contests were postponed last week due to the snowstorm that hit the Mid-Atlantic region ... In the NFCA March 15 rankings, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 11 ... CNU's Grace Wild led the Captains in hitting last week in a 1-3 week...CNU opens CAC play Saturday at Wesley ... Junior Caroline Callahan turned in another outstanding week for Mary Washington, who surpassed last season's win total, and stands with 15 wins. The junior outfielder hit .467 on the week, with seven hits in 15 at bats, scored seven runs, drove in two, and walked twice ... Salisbury played just twice last week. LeAnne Collins went 4-for-7 (.571) with a double, two runs scored and one driven in. Sophomore Shannon Powell pitched in both games of the doubleheader against Lynchburg, going 6 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run. She walked only one and scattered five hits ... Wesley's Ashley Royer continued her hot start to the season by notching a six-game hitting streak and reaching base in 26 consecutive games dating back to last season. On the week, Royer went .500 (6-for-12) with a home run, a double and five runs batted in.
