St. Mary's Senior Gillian Sawyer and Christopher Newport Junior Sam Rabinek Claim CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's senior Gillian Sawyer and Christopher Newport junior Sam Rabinek were honored as the CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for Sept. 14, 2015. 

Offensive Player of the Week

St. Mary's senior Gillian Sawyer was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying four goals and one assist in a 1-1 week for the Seahawks. Sawyer started the week by scoring the first goal of the game and assisting on the game-winner in a 2-1 win at Washington College. She capped her week with her second career hat trick in helping the Seahawks rally from a 3-0 deficit to force overtime in a 4-3 defeat to Elizabethtown.

Christopher Newport defender Sam Rabinek was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Captains post a pair of shutout victories in the Captains Classic last weekend. Rabinek and the CNU defense held Methodist and Houghton to 13 total shots, including just two shots on goal per game.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport (4-0-1) and Wesley (2-0-2) remain unbeaten in the 2015 season ... CNU's Kayla Locklear scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Methodist. CNU's 4-0-1 start is its best start through five games since 2000, when the Captains opened 8-0. Four different Captains scored the four goals last week, with three more picking up assists. Junior GK Haley Casanova moved into a tie for third all-time in career shutouts ... Senior Michelle Gibbons netted the game winner in a 2-1 win over Wilkes on Sunday, as Mary Washington won a pair of games at the UMW Soccer Classic over the weekend. Her direct free kick with 10 minutes remaining moved the Eagles to 4-2 on the season ... Salisbury's Jenna Taylor scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 win over Roanoke on Saturday evening in the Shellenberger Soccer Classic in Lynchburg, Va. Salisbury goalkeeper Hope Knussman tallied nine saves in the 2-0 shutout over Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday, the most saves for a Salisbury goalkeeper since the 2013 season ... Wesley's Janiah Moore continued her impressive freshman campaign with a goal in each of the Wolverines contests on the week. She scored the game-tying goal against Immaculata and then netted the game-winner against Rosemont on Saturday. Moore has scored six goals on the season and is tied for the lead in the CAC in goals and points. Goalkeeper Chelsea Marriner notched her first career shutout against Rosement, and made a season-high 10 saves in a 1-1 draw with Immaculata. Marriner is 2-0-2 in net on the year and has made a total of 27 saves.
