FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury seniors Ruthie Lucas and Hope Knussman and St. Mary's senior Sydney Larkin were tabbed as the CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 30, 2017.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Ruthie Lucas was tabbed as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after recording three goals and an assist in a pair of wins for the Sea Gulls last week. Lucas notched two goals and an assist in the regulation season finale against Wesley on Wednesday, then followed it up with another goal in the CAC Tournament first-round win against Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday. Lucas tallied the game-winning score in both contests. 

  

Co-Defensive Player of the Week

St. Mary's senior Sydney Larkin earned CAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades after posting two shutouts in leading the Seahawks to a 2-0 week and a spot in the semifinals of the CAC Tournament. Larkin started the week with eight saves in a 2-0 win over York, helping the Seahawks clinch a playoff berth. She followed that up with two stops in eliminating Mary Washington and advancing St. Mary's to the semifinals for the third straight season. Following her performance this past week, Larkin is now second all-time at St. Mary's with 24 wins and third in program history with 17 shutouts. 

 

 

Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Hope Knussman received CAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors after tallying 11 saves in two shutout victories last week. Her 10-save performance on Saturday was a big factor in Salisbury advancing to the CAC semifinals, despite being out-shot by Penn State Harrisburg, 18-14. Eight of Knussman's nine wins on the season have been by shutout. This marks the third weekly award for Knussman this season.

In Wednesday's CAC semifinals, No. 1 Christopher Newport will host No. 4 St. Mary's and No. 2 Frostburg State will host No. 3 Salisbury ... Christopher Newport remain ranked in the top-10 of both national polls. The Captains are No. 5 in the D3soccer.com rankings and No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches poll ... In the NCAA Regional Rankings, CNU is ranked No. 2 in the South Atlantic Region ... CNU sophomore Carson Pokorny tied the school record with four assists during CNU's 7-0 win over Marymount, helping the Captains cap an undefeated regular season ... Frostburg State sophomore Brooke Shehade scored for the fifth-consecutive game in a 1-0 blanking of Southern Virginia. Frostburg capped the regular season with five-straight wins to earn the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament ... St. Mary's freshman Alex Moody scored both goals in St. Mary's 2-0 win over York, helping the Seahawks clinch a playoff berth. It was Moody's second straight multiple-goal performance. She is now second on the team in scoring with five goals, two assists, and 12 points ... Wesley junior midfielder Janiah Moore picked up two goals and assist in Wesley's 6-1 win in their season finale against Brooklyn College on Friday.
