Christopher Newport Junior Logan Harrington and Salisbury Junior Meghan McGowan Claim CAC Women's Track & Field Weekly Awards

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport junior Logan Harrington and Salisbury junior Meghan McGowan were honored as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 8, 2016.

Christopher Newport junior Logan Harrington earned her fourth CAC Track Athlete of the Week award of the indoor season after breaking the CAC record in the 800 meters twice since the CAC Championships. First, she won the event and established a new standard with a time of 2:13:89 during the George Mason Final Qualifier. Later, she broke the mark again during the Tufts Final Qualifier with a time of 2:12.73. That clocking also won the meet, moved her to fifth in the nation, and qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Salisbury junior Meghan McGowan earned CAC Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this year after securing her spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships with her effort at the ECAC Championships on Saturday. She placed second in the high jump with a height of 5'-6.5", tying her own school and conference records and moving into a tie for 11th in the country.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

A CAC-record 10 women will compete in five events at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships set this weekend in Grinnell, Iowa ... The previous high number of qualifiers for CAC women was four in 2015 ... Women's competitors will include Christopher Newport's Logan Harrington (800m), Jennifer Westerholm (pentathlon) and Briana Sutton (pentathlon), Wesley's Evelina Sloboh (60m), the 4x400 relay of Elizsha StreeterBriana ArtisQuadira Minus and Angel Hall, Frostburg State's Kayla Truesdel (60m) and Salisbury's Meghan McGowan (high jump) ... Frostburg State's Kayla Truesdel captured two top-10 finishes at the ECAC Championships last weekend, taking 10th in the 60-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter dash ... Jamie Farley set Salisbury's school record in the 400-meter dash for her second- and third-straight meets in the past two weeks. After breaking the record at the CAC Championships, she bested that time with a 59.55-second race at the George Mason Last Chance meet. Farley followed that with a time of 58.69 seconds at the ECAC Championships and finished eighth in the race.
