Marymount junior Melissa Teeple was named the CAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after racing to a second-place individual finish and helping the Saints to the team title at the Salisbury Fall Classic. The team crown is the top team finish in program history for the Saints. Teeple, who is coming off a year-long injury last season, charged to the finish line in 23:38.18 in the 6k to nab second place. Her finish helped guide Marymount to a total of 46 points atop the standings of the nine-team race.

Christopher Newport received 12 votes in the USTFCCCA Preseason National Rankings, finishing just outside the top 35 teams ... Nine of the 10 CAC cross country teams opened their 2015 campaigns last week ... CNU's Lydia Cromwell teamed with Logan Harrington for a third-place finish during the CNU Cross Country Opener, which was a relay meet in Richmond. Overall, Christopher Newport placed fourth during the competition, finishing behind William & Mary, Richmond, and VCU ... Frostburg State's Jayla Jones opened her freshman season at the 2015 Westmoreland Invitational Saturday, taking eighth place in 26:13 and earning a top-10 award in the process ... Mary Washington opened the new season and the Kunle Lawson coaching era by competing at the Christopher Newport Opener Relay event. UMW finished 5th and was paced by Victoria Parent and Emily Knerr in 17th overall at 39:02 ... St. Mary's Halcyon Ruskin made a solid debut for the Seahawks, finishing 13th out of 80 runners at the Salisbury Fall Classic ... Southern Virginia's Leah Huber ran a 6K at Salisbury under 24 minutes (23:51), the fastest Southern Virginia time in the D-III era and the only 6K run under 24 minutes. Huber placed 5th in the 10-team race. She is returning from an 18-month church mission in Arizona ... Freshman Alayna DeBruin was York's top finisher at the Galen Piper Classic hosted by Shippensburg. DeBruin placed 52nd with a time of 16:55.
