Salisbury Sophomore Becca Rinaca and Mary Washington Sophomore Megan McLaughlin Named CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury sophomore Becca Rinaca and Mary Washington sophomore Megan McLaughlin have been honored as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Sept. 15, 2014. 

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury sophomore Becca Rinaca was honored as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring twice in the second half of No. 2 Salisbury's win against No. 11 Messiah on Saturday. Rinaca put home the go-ahead goal just two minutes into the second half and added the insurance marker 13 minutes later. She recorded the two scores on just two shots.  

Defensive Player of the Week

Mary Washington sophomore Megan McLaughlin was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Eagles to a 2-0 week with wins over Bridgewater (Va.) and Shenandoah. McLaughlin recorded a shutout against Bridgewater on Wednesday with six saves, and then made seven saves in 65 minutes without allowing a goal against Shenandoah, stopping the Hornets' final three penalty stroke attempts as the #18 Eagles topped the Hornets, 3-2, in strokes. For the week, McLaughlin made 13 saves without allowing a goal in 135 minutes of action.

CAC teams now boast a combined mark of 29-10 (.744) on the year ... Salisbury is #2, Christopher Newport #7 and Mary Washington #18 in the NFHCA Rankings ... Christopher Newport sophomore Sarah Miller notched her first career goal, which proved to be the game-winner, during a 3-1 victory over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday. Belle Tunstall also continued to rewrite the CNU record books, eclipsing Haylie Black's all-time program record with her 31st career assist ... Emily Bishop notched the game-winning goal for St. Mary's in a 2-0 win against Shenandoah ... Wesley senior Lauren Mears notched her first career hat trick in 5-4 win over Richard Stockton, the first hat trick by a Wesley player since Madison Leone did on Oct. 28, 2012 in a CAC Tournament win over Frostburg State.
