YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport freshman Marcus Carter was named the CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 5, 2015.

Christopher Newport freshman guard Marcus Carter earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after averaging 18.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest in a 3-0 week for the Captains. Carter was named MVP of the Captains Shootout with strong performances in wins over Otterbein and Hood, including a career-high 27-point outburst with six three-pointers against Otterbein. He was also one of four Captains in double figures in a 95-61 CAC win over York on Saturday. For the week, he averaged 3.3 three-pointers, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 60.7% from the field and 58.8% from three.

Christopher Newport and Marymount are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll ... Sophomore John Lutkenhaus led Mary Washington to its first victory of the season, over first-place Marymount, on Saturday. He scored 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting, with three three-pointers, including the go-ahead three in the final minute. Senior Taylor Johnson added eight rebounds, and surpassed the 500-rebound plateau in his career ... Troy Spurrier led St. Mary's to its fourth straight win, an 85-65 home triumph over Penn State Harrisburg, with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting ... Wyatt Smith paced Salisbury during the Randolph-Macon Holiday Tournament, netting 26 points in the Sea Gulls' win over Baruch while shooting over 70% from the floor and from behind the three-point line. He then registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Carroll (Wis.) on the second day of the tournament ... Wesley's A.J.
