York Sophomore Tyler Newton Earns CAC Golfer of the Week Honors

YORK, Pa. -- York sophomore Tyler Newton earned CAC Golfer of the Week honors for April 4, 2017.

York sophomore Tyler Newton earned CAC Golfer of the Week honors after winning the Scarlet Consolation Tournament at the Camp Lejeune Marine Championship. Newton fired a three-day total of two-over par 214 (67-76-71) to edge out the second-place finisher by two strokes among 70 golfers in Jacksonville, N.C. His total of 214 throughout the three rounds was two-over par. Newton started the tournament with a three-under-par 67 on the scarlet course on Friday. He followed that with a four-over-par 76 during Saturday's round at the gold course. He concluded the tournament with a one-over-par 71 on Sunday to earn the win in the Scarlet bracket. The Spartans finished eighth as a team in the tournament.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All seven CAC golf teams were in action this past week ... Less than two weeks remain until the 2017 CAC Golf Championship, set for April 14-16 at Bay Creek Resort in Cape Charles, Va. ... Christopher Newport went 2-1 in the DIII Grandover Match Play Invitational. Joey Corlett won all three of his matches, and was the only CNU player to earn a point against nationally-ranked and tournament champion Berry. Corlett also toppled his opponents against Otterbein and 16th-ranked Guilford ... Freshman Phillip Manceri led Mary Washington to a sixth-place finish at the Marine Credit Union Collegiate Championship among 31 teams this weekend. Manceri shot a three-day score of 218 (+4) to lead the team, as they tied for sixth place with Skidmore in the main bracket. Manceri shot a 75 on day one, 71 on day two, and 72 on day three. The Eagles placing gains them an automatic invitation to next year's event ... Marymount senior Kyle Weitendorf guided the Saints to the team championship over 16 teams at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate in North Carolina. In the three-day tournament, Weitendorf hit a career-best 69 (-1) to open the event, followed it up with a round of 76 (+4) on the gold course (par 72), before closing out the tournament on the Scarlet Course with a 72 (+2). His efforts helped the Saints jump from eighth place entering the final round to winning the event ... Wesley played at the Rosemont Raven Invitational, taking 10th out of 19 teams. Tyler Spielberger led the Wolverines in 22nd place, shooting a two-day total of 161.
