St. Mary's Senior Nicholas LaGuerre Secures Second Straight CAC Men's Basketball Weekly Award

YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's senior Nicholas LaGuerre earned CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades for Feb. 9, 2015.

St. Mary's senior guard Nicholas LaGuerre was named the CAC Player of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season after stretching his streak of 20-point games to five in a 2-0 week for first-place St. Mary's. LaGuerre started the week with game-highs of 21 points and six assists as the Seahawks overcame a seven point first-half deficit to gain a 71-66 win at Mary Washington. He then led the way with game-bests of 28 points and five steals in the win over Frostburg State. LaGuerre finished the week with averages of 24.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per contest while shooting 15-of-16 (93.8%) from the free throw line.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

With five CAC regular season games remaining, St. Mary's (12-2 CAC) holds a one-game edge over Marymount (11-3) atop the CAC standings, with both Christopher Newport and Salisbury a game back of Marymount at 10-4 in CAC play ... Mary Washington freshman Eric Shaw averaged 16.5 PPG last week, including 25 against St. Mary's, and senior Taylor Johnson averaged 16.0 PPG including 20 at Salisbury ... Salisbury picked up a pair of key wins last week, defeating Christopher Newport in overtime on Wednesday and Mary Washington on Saturday. Conor Strickland hit the game-tying layup in the second half to force overtime and then scored five points in the overtime period, including the final two free throws of the game, to clinch the win for SU ... Wesley's Wayne Lennon posted a well-rounded line of eight points, 11 rebounds, five assists and a career-high five blocks in the Wolverines win over York ... York sophomore Dalton Myers averaged 20 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in the Spartans' two road contests for the week.
