Salisbury Sophomore Carson Kalama and Junior Knute Kraus Sweep CAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury swept this week's awards as sophomore Carson Kalama and senior Knute Kraus were named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 23, 2015.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury sophomore Carson Kalama was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after pacing the Sea Gulls' offense in both of its wins last week. Kalama tallied a team-high six points with four goals and two assists in a 13-7 victory over No. 10 Cabrini, and also picked up five ground balls in the showdown of nationally-ranked squads. He then tied for the team high with two goals in an 11-4 win over Mary Washington, also adding a ground ball and a caused turnover. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Knute Kraus earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Sea Gulls' defense with seven caused turnovers and five ground balls in wins over No. 10 Cabrini and Mary Washington. He caused six turnovers in the win over Mary Washington on Saturday, while also picking up two ground balls. Kraus led a defensive effort that saw the Sea Gulls cause 14 turnovers and only allow 10 shots through the first three quarters. He caused one turnover and picked up three ground balls in the team's mid-week win over Cabrini.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In the USILA Rankings, Salisbury is No. 12, and Frostburg State is receiving votes ... In Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, Salisbury moved up one spot to No. 13 ... Eight of the nine CAC teams have now opened up conference play, with Salisbury and Frostburg State atop the standings at 2-0 in the early going ... Christopher Newport senior John Thompson led the Captains with nine goals last week, including a career-high six in the CAC opener against Marymount on Saturday. Overall, Thompson has now posted a hat trick in five straight games and has six total hat tricks this season ... Tate Rolland helped Frostburg State to two wins and a 9-0 record by scoring five goals and handing out two assists last week in wins over McDaniel and Wesley ... Senior Jack Bondurant tallied five goals and two assists in a pair of games for Mary Washington last week. He leads the team with 20 goals and seven assists for the year ... St. Mary's Eric Simon matched a single-game record with a career-best seven goals in a tough 14-12 loss to No. 19 Denison, before following that up with a hat trick in a win over Southern Virginia for the Seahawks' first win of the season ... Southern Virginia's Casey Rich had seven goals, nine ground balls last week, including five goals that helped lead the Knights to a 11-10 victory over SUNY-Cobleskill ... Wesley's Eric Bohns had seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls in two  games, which included a win over Misericordia where Wesley overcame a four-goal deficit. Sam Seibert tallied hat tricks in both games for the Wolverines ... Tyler Hutson had another strong week for the York as he recorded nine points in two games, including four goals and an assist in the Spartans' 10-8 win over Eastern. Hutson leads the Spartans with 30 points on 18 goals and 12 assists in 2015.
