YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State senior Spenser Love and Christopher Newport senior Brandon Moloney were honored as the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 21, 2016.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Frostburg State senior Spenser Love was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after notching eight goals and five assists in a 3-0 week for the Bobcats. Love opened the week with five points and Sewanee and added four-point efforts against both Wesley and Washington College. He was crucial in the Bobcats' second-half comeback against Washington College, recording two goals and two assists after halftime to lead Frostburg State to a come-from-behind 13-10 victory. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Brandon Moloney was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the Captains' midfield unit in victories over No. 11 Roanoke and Marymount. On Wednesday, he kicked things off by forcing two turnovers and grabbing a pair of ground balls during the 11-7 win over Roanoke. He was instrumental in a defensive effort that allowed just a single goal to the Maroons in the second half. On Saturday, he opened up CAC action with a career-high 10 ground balls during a 14-8 triumph at Marymount. That ranks as the second-highest single-game total by a non-faceoff specialist in CNU history. He also caused a pair of turnovers against the Saints while helping limit the opposition to only 10 on-target shots.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All nine CAC teams have now opened up CAC play ... Four CAC teams are in this week's national rankings. Salisbury is ranked No. 2 in both the USILA and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, York is ranked No. 6 in the USILA poll and No. 9 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll, Frostburg State is No. 7 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll and No. 16 in the USILA rankings, and Christopher Newport entered this week's Nike/Lacrosse Magazine rankings at No. 20 ... Frostburg State (10-0) and Salisbury (7-0) remain unbeaten in 2016 ... CNU's Dave Magdeburger posted back-to-back four-point efforts for the Captains last week. He was a huge part of CNU's comeback win over Roanoke, scoring consecutive goals in the second half including the go-ahead strike at the start of the fourth period. He also tallied four goals in the win over Marymount ... Marymount's Bryan Mcmanus pieced together his fourth game this season with at least three goals in the Saints' 11-10 victory over Shenandoah, scoring a game-high four goals including the game-winner with 2:38 left in the fourth quarter ... Mary Washington sophomore Sam Wasson made 10 saves in an 8-6 loss to Guilford and made nine stops in a 9-4 loss to Salisbury last week ... St. Mary's went 1-1 last week with a 24-14 non-conference win over Illinois Wesleyan and a 17-16 overtime loss to Southern Virginia in CAC play. Phil Cappello notched career-bests of five ground balls and three caused turnovers against Illinois Wesleyan before going 14-of-25 at the X with three ground balls in the loss at Southern Virginia. Nicholas Wilkinson totaled 13 points on the week for the Seahawks, including career-bests of four goals and six assists against Illinois Wesleyan ... Salisbury went 2-0 with wins over Washington College and Mary Washington. Will Nowesnick caused five turnovers while scooping up two groundballs for the week, while Thomas Cirillo registred three points in both games. Cirillo has 21 goals and a CAC-leading 19 assists this season ... Southern Virginia went 2-0 last week with an 11-9 win over Randolph and a dramatic 17-16 overtime win over St. Mary's. Casey Rich hit the game-tying shot against St. Mary's as time expired before scoring the game-winner in OT. Rich racked up five goals and three assists vs. the Seahawks, and is tied for second in the CAC in goals with 24 ... Wesley's Sam Seibert was the Wolverines' most consistent offensive threat as they fell in two games last week. Seibert scored a goal against Misericordia and won 7-of-12 faceoffs. Against Frostburg State, the senior had a direct impact on each of the Wolverines' five goals, scoring four times and assisting on the fifth goal ... York posted a 2-1 week that included wins over Elizabethtown and No. 9 Nazareth and a loss to No. 14 Lynchburg. Joey Fiorino had a goal, seven ground balls and six caused turnovers for the Spartans, while Austin Glab tallied three goals and five assists to lead the offense.
