Mary Washington Senior David Lunding-Johansson and Salisbury Senior Eric Spangler Named CAC Men's Tennis Co-Players of the Week
YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington senior David Lunding-Johansson and Salisbury senior Eric Spanger were selected as the CAC Men's Tennis Co-Players of the Week for March 2, 2016.

Mary Washington senior David Lunding-Johansson was named the CAC Men's Tennis Co-Player of the Week after leading the 16th-ranked Eagles to a 7-1 start to the season, including a 3-1 record against Division I schools. Lunding-Johansson is 7-0 in singles play with wins over Division I Longwood, George Mason and UC Riverside, primarily from the No. 2 position. He picked up singles wins over nationally-ranked Stevens and North Carolina Wesleyan as well. In doubles, he and Alex Cragg boast a 6-1 mark, with their six-match winning streak stopped with a defeat at UC Riverside on Sunday.

Salisbury senior Eric Spangler was named the CAC Men's Tennis Co-Player of the Week after opening the season with a 7-1 combined singles and doubles mark, including a 4-0 record at No. 1 singles. Spangler won all four of his singles matches in straight sets, surrendering just 13 games along the way. This past weekend, he defeated Johns Hopkins' Jeremy Dubin, who is ranked No. 14 in the Atlantic South Region. Spangler boasts a 3-1 record in doubles this spring at the No. 1 spot, with the only loss coming against 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 8-6.

Four CAC teams opened up their seasons through this past Sunday - Christopher Newport, Mary Washington, St. Mary's and Salisbury ... Southern Virginia and York begin their spring campaigns this week, while Frostburg State and Penn State Harrisburg will open up in mid-March ... Mary Washington is ranked No. 16 in the ITA national rankings and No. 4 in the Atlantic South Region, while Christopher Newport is No. 37 nationally and No. 9 in the region. Salisbury is No. 10 in the region ... In the ITA singles rankings, UMW's Brandon Griffin is No. 32 in the nation and No. 9 in the region, UMW's Stratton Gilmore is No. 42 in the nation and No. 11 in the region, UMW's David Lunding-Johansson is No. 16 in the region, and CNU's David Reed is No. 21 ... In the regional doubles rankings, Gilmore and Griffin are ranked 10th for the Eagles ... Through last Sunday, CNU is 3-4 this spring with a tough slate of matches that included four nationally-ranked opponents and two Division I opponents. The Captains defeated No. 22 North Carolina Wesleyan and No. 38 Chapman, and also faced off against defending national-champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, falling 9-0 ... St. Mary's opened its spring season this past weekend with losses to Randolph-Macon (7-2) and Washington College (8-1). Nick Ersoy picked up the lone singles win of the weekend for the Seahawks vs. Washington College, claiming a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 6 singles.
