YORK, Pa. -- Southern Virginia freshman Tanner Bassett was selected as the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 7, 2017.

Southern Virginia freshman Tanner Bassett was selected as the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after powering the Knights to a 2-0 week, posting unbeaten marks in singles and doubles. Against Virginia Union, he teamed with Jake Fisher for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, before securing a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles. In a 5-4 team win over Ferrum, Bassett notched again teamed with Fisher for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, securing the only doubles win for the Knights. In singles, he recorded another 6-0, 6-0 victory to help the Knights to the team win. Bassett has posted 6-0 wins in five of his last seven singles sets.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC teams were in action last week ... York opens its spring season on March 11, while Penn State Harrisburg opens up on March 16 ... No. 27 Christopher Newport opened its spring break trip to California with a 1-1 record. The Captains began the week with an 8-1 defeat to No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer, before taking down Chapman 8-1 ... Sophomore Matt Miles helped No. 21 Mary Washington move its win streak to 6-0 against Division III opponents this spring with a pair of victories in California on Sunday. Playing two singles, he defeated Dara Kashani of Cal Lutheran, 6-3, 6-2, and teamed with Derek Hagino at two doubles to win, 8-6, as the Eagles topped Cal Lu, 7-2. He then faced Derik Nguyen of Cal Tech at two singles, and won, 6-2, 7-5. He and Hagino won at two doubles, 8-3, as the Eagles ran their win streak to six straight.

He defeated Blaise Castleberry of Delaware, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-0, then topped Mac Rechan of Georgetown, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. He then beat Tucker Massey of Navy, 7-5, 6-3, before falling in the final to Elliott Loubataille of UMBC, 6-2, 6-3.
