St. Mary's Junior Lacey Brown and York Sophomore Nicole Clauter Receive CAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's junior Lacey Brown and York sophomore Nicole Clauter were selected as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for April 17, 2017.  

Offensive Player of the Week

St. Mary's junior Lacey Brown was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling nine goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for the Seahawks, helping them secure the No. 4 seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. Brown started the week with career-highs of six points, four goals, two assists, and two draw controls in a key CAC 16-15 win over Christopher Newport. She followed that effort up with a new career mark in goals, tallying a career- and game-best five goals in an 18-12 victory over Frostburg State. 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

York sophomore Nicole Clauter was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after leading the seventh-ranked Spartans to a pair of key CAC wins, including a victory over Salisbury that snapped the Sea Gulls' 101-game conference winning streak. In wins over Salisbury and Christopher Newport, Clauter and the York defense held opponents to just 7.5 goals per contest. For the week, she totaled seven draw controls, four ground balls and caused a turnover.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

The six-team CAC Tournament begins this week with first-round matchups on Tuesday ... In Tuesday's first round, No. 4 St. Mary's will host No. 5 Christopher Newport, while No. 3 Mary Washington will host No. 6 Frostburg State ... Top-seeded York and second-seeded Salisbury will host the CAC semifinals on Saturday, with the championship game set for Saturday, Apr. 29 ... CNU's Meaghan Galvin led the Captains with 13 points last week, including eight goals and five assists. She kicked off the week with a 10-point effort at St. Mary's on Wednesday, which tied her career-high and equaled the sixth-highest single-game total in program history. On Saturday, she came back with three points, including a pair of goals, against No. 7 York. Along with her work on the attack, she also notched a team-high 11 draw controls during the week. With that performance, she became the first player in program history to secure 100 draws in a single season after reaching that benchmark with her final draw control of the week ... Frostburg State freshman Nikki Hallikas finished her first season as a Bobcats with nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) last week as the Bobcats wrapped up the sixth seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament... Mackenzie Maguire led Mary Washington to a pair of CAC wins this week, scoring five goals and adding three assists. She had two goals and an assist in a 19-7 win over Frostburg State, and added three goals and two assists in a win over Marymount. Kirsten Littlefield posted four ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover vs. Frostburg State and added a ground ball, five draws, and two caused turnovers in a win over Marymount ... Marymount's Abby Wescott, the current leader in the country in assists with 58, earned another top spot in the program record book this past week, taking over the career points category on Wednesday over Wesley. A nine-point week has her currently sitting with 219 points in just three seasons. She also sits fourth in the country in points (87) ... Maribeth Anderson helped St. Mary's to a 2-0 week with a dominant defensive performance at Frostburg State. Anderson collected season-bests of six ground balls and two caused turnovers as the Seahawks turned around a 6-4 first half deficit ... Salisbury goalkeeper Gianna Falcone notched 14 saves in two games against top 10 teams, with eight of those saves collected against top-ranked TCNJ ... Southern Virginia senior Claire Houghtaling led the team with five goals this week, including a hat trick against Wesley. Scored two goals on her two shots against Greensboro ... Wesley's Fallon Fore tallied six goals, four ground balls, two draw controls, an assists and a caused turnover against Southern Virginia. Fore is tied for sixth in the CAC in goals with 39. Shelby Schirmer finished the 2017 season with 137 saves, good for third-best  in the CAC ... York handed Salisbury its first CAC loss since 2002, earning a 10-6 home victory on Wednesday that wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the CAC Tournament for the first-time ever for the Spartans. Devin Hursey totaled four points on three goals and an assist with five ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers on the week. For the season, Hursey has 24 points on 14 goals and 10 assists in her 15 games. She has collected 15 ground balls and 18 draw controls while she also has six caused turnovers.
