Salisbury Senior Natalie Savage Receives CAC Women's Tennis Weekly Accolades

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury senior Natalie Savage was selected as the CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for March 8, 2016.

Salisbury senior Natalie Savage was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after earning wins in both singles and doubles matches last weekend, including a pair of CAC wins. Savage cruised to victory in her top singles and doubles matches against Southern Virginia, giving up just one total game. Against Franklin & Marshall, ranked No. 11 in the Atlantic South Region, she earned two more wins, claiming an 8-3 victory in doubles and a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Savage is unbeaten in singles play this year, with a 7-0 mark.

Six CAC squads have opened up their spring seasons, with Frostburg State and Penn State Harrisburg set to open up in mid-March ... In the ITA team rankings, Mary Washington is ranked No. 18 in the nation and No. 6 in the Atlantic South Region, Christopher Newport is No. 33 nationally and No. 7 in the region, and Salisbury is No. 8 in the region ... In the ITA singles rankings, UMW's Shelby Harris is ranked No. 41 in the nation and 10th in the region, Salisbury's Natalie Savage is No. 17 in the region, and UMW's Kait Brogan is No. 25 ... In doubles, Harris and Brogan are No. 5 nationally and No. 3 regionally, while teammates Sara Fioretti and Caroline Mosberg are tied for 25th nationally and No. 7 regionally ... CNU went 1-1 last week with a 6-3 win over No. 34 Chapman and a 4-5 defeat to No. 21 Redlands. Emily Morgan won all four of her matches at No. 5/6 singles and No. 2 doubles. Morgan and Alexandra Drye improved to 8-0 at No. 2 doubles this season ... Mary Washington junior Taylor Diffley won two of three singles matches at No. 4 and a pair of doubles matches at No. 2 last week against three nationally-ranked opponents in California. She downed her opponent from No. 23 LaVerne, 6-3, 6-3, and from No. 40 Chapman, 6-0, 6-1, before falling against top-ranked Pomona-Pitzer. In doubles, Diffley and Mackenzie Smith won at two against LaVerne, 8-3, and against Chapman, 8-2 ... Katie Wagner led York to a 7-2 win over Stevenson to open up the spring schedule. Wagner earned a 6-2, 6-0 first singles win for the Spartans, who improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Wagner also teamed with Darian Naill to earn a first doubles win as the Spartans cruised to victory. Wagner is 4-0 in first singles and is also, along with Naill, 4-0 in first doubles.
