Christopher Newport senior Emmie Schmitt was chosen as the CAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after leading the Captains with a time of 22:38 in the 6k at Lehigh's Paul Short Run. That performance placed her 93rd overall during a race that included 15 Division I programs and many other nationally-ranked Division II and III teams. Guided by Schmitt's efforts, the Captains finished 28th as a team during the Women's Brown Division at the meet.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State's Faith Thackston paced the Bobcats last week with a ninth-place showing at the Bobcat Invitational. She was the second Division III finisher to cross the line with a time of 26:40.85. She has recorded top-10 placings at all three of her meets this fall ... Marymount's Denise Gallant grabbed her third-straight top-20 finish (20th/24:10.42) on Saturday at Don Cathcart Invitational to lead the Saints ... Sophomore Jillian Weisbeck was Mary Washington's top finisher at the Paul Short Invitational, placing 48th overall at 23:47, as the Eagles claimed 16th place in the white division race ... Penn State Harrisburg's Veronica Repetz placed 13th at the Dickinson Long and Short Invitational ... Abby Potter was the top Salisbury finisher this past weekend at the 28th Annual Don Cathcart Invitational, taking seventh and finishing the 6k race with a time of 23:23.06. The Sea Gulls finished second as a team with 52 points.
