YORK, Pa. -- Southern Virginia freshman Marcus Begg and Christopher Newport freshman Michael Thomas were named the CAC Baseball Players of the Week for March 28, 2016.

Player of the Week

Marcus Begg | Southern Virginia | Fr. | 1B/3B

Clearwater, Fla. | Mitchell

Southern Virginia freshman Marcus Begg was named the CAC Player of the Week after batting .700 (14-for-20) with 10 RBIs and six runs scored last week. Begg registered at least two RBIs and two hits in each of the Knights' four contests, including a 5-for-5 performance in game one of a doubleheader with York. He also hit one home run, one double and stole two bases on the week.

Pitcher of the Week

Michael Thomas | Christopher Newport | Fr. | LHP

Fairfax, Va. W.T. Woodson

Christopher Newport freshman Michael Thomas received CAC Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing the first complete-game shutout in two years for the Captains, blanking Bridgewater (Va.) in non-conference action. Thomas struck out a career-high seven batters in a career-high nine innings. He was incredibly efficient, cruising through 30 batters in just 95 pitches. He faced just one three-ball count all day, and that wouldn't come until the final batter, whom he struck out. He allowed just three hits, all singles. Usually a reliever, Thomas was making just his fifth career start and blitzed past his previous career high of five innings and five strikeouts.
