YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport swept this week's awards as junior Randy Foster and senior Brandon Moloney were named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 28, 2016.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Randy Foster nabbed CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Captains with nine goals and four assists in a 2-1 week that included wins over Virginia Wesleyan and No. 15 Frostburg State. Foster opened the week with a career-high five-point effort on Monday against Union, which entered the game receiving votes in the latest USILA national poll. On Wednesday, he came back with his second-straight hat-trick during a 16-9 victory at Virginia Wesleyan before equaling his career-high with another five-point performance during the team's 12-11 victory over No. 15 Frostburg State on Saturday. Capping off the come-from-behind victory against the Bobcats, he scored the game-winner with 1:40 left in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Additionally, the junior chipped in with six ground balls during the week and forced a turnover against Union.

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Brandon Moloney was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after compiling 27 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers in three contests. He opened up on Monday with six ground balls, four caused turnovers, and his first collegiate goal against Union. On Wednesday against Virginia Wesleyan, he tied the single-game program record for ground balls by a non-faceoff specialist with 11. On Saturday, he wrapped up the week with 10 more ground balls and three caused turnovers during CNU's 12-11 upset victory over No. 15 Frostburg State. He intercepted a pass behind the crease with 31 seconds left in regulation to seal the win. That caused turnover also marked his 29th of the year, which established a new single-season program record.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

CAC play is now ramping up as all nine teams have played at least two conference contests ... Four CAC teams are in this week's national rankings. Salisbury jumped to No. 1 in both the USILA and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine rankings. York is ranked No. 4 in the USILA poll and No. 7 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll, Frostburg State is No. 19 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll and No. 20 in the USILA rankings, and Christopher Newport is No. 18 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine rankings and receiving votes in the USILA poll ... Salisbury (11-0) is the lone remaining unbeaten CAC team in 2016 ... Frostburg State senior Tate Rolland led the Bobcats in scoring as they posted a 1-1 record last week, finishing with eight points, behind a four-goal, one-assist effort against Christopher Newport. Senior Spenser Love became Frostburg State's all-time leading goal scorer with 116 goals in the Bobcats' win over McDaniel on Wednesday ... Mary Washington junior Miles Davis was the Eagles' top scorer in their 16-9 loss at No. 4 York on Saturday, scoring a pair of goals and adding three assists. He leads the Eagles with 19 goals, 10 assists, and 29 points on the season ... For the second straight game, St. Mary's Conor Jordan tallied a career-high nine points on six goals and three assists as the Seahawks posted their first CAC win of the season. Goalkeeper Max Alderman made six stops, scooped up two ground balls, and caused one turnover in the win over Wesley ... Salisbury's Nathan Blondino totaled 11 points in two games last week to spring board his season total to 41 points. Against No. 17 Roanoke, Blondino went for four goals and added an assist. Against Southern Virginia, Blondino had six points on three goals and three assists. Andrew Ternahan contributed eight caused turnovers and scooped up 10 groundballs from the long-stick midfield position. Ternahan ranks third in the CAC with 22 caused turnovers ... Southern Virginia's Zach Danneman recorded a hat trick in a 15-12 win over Randolph-Macon. He is second on the team with 24 goals scored this season ... York's Josh Kluver totaled seven groundballs and five caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Spartans that included wins over Marymount and Mary Washington. For the year, Kluver has 23 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers in 10 games. Andrew Gamble notched five goals and three assists last week, with three goals and an assist against Marymount and two goals and two assists against UMW. For the year, Gamble leads the Spartans in scoring with 31 points on 21 goals and 10 assists with four man-up goals. He has collected 20 ground balls and caused eight turnovers.
