Salisbury Freshman Patrick MacLean Named CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury freshman Patrick MacLean was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 22, 2017.

Salisbury freshman Patrick MacLean was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a 4-0 week in a pair of Sea Gull victories in California. MacLean won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles in a team win over previously-unbeaten Hampden-Sydney, and earned a 6-4, 6-7(5-7), 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against St. Lawrence. In doubles play, he earned two wins, topping his HSC opponents 9-8 (7-5) at No. 2, teaming with freshman Matthew Ryan, and winning 8-6 with senior Grant Hudson at No. 2 against St. Lawrence.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, Mary Washington is No. 21 and Christopher Newport is No. 28 ... Mary Washington senior Brandon Griffin picked up a pair of wins on Saturday as UMW topped No. 33 Washingotn & Lee to improve to 7-4 overall on the season, and 7-2 against Division III opponents. Griffin won at two doubles with Matt Miles, 8-5, and then won at one singles, topping Jordan Krasner at one, 6-1, 7-5 ... In a 3-0 week for St. Mary's, Ethan Garren posted a combined 6-0 record between singles and doubles action. Garren won all three of his No. 2 singles matches in straight sets, posting wins over Stevenson's Wornden Ly (6-3, 6-2), Thomas' (Maine) Ross Munn (6-3, 6-1), and Marietta's Will Watson (6-0, 6-1). He then teamed up with James Loftis for a 3-0 mark at No. 2 doubles ... Salisbury head coach Randy Halpap collected his 200th career win in the Sea Gulls' 6-3 triumph over Hampden-Sydney ... Southern Virginia's  defeated Penn State Harrisburg 8-1 in CAC action last week. TJ Snelson won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Zac Bowers for an 8-2 triumph at No. 1 doubles.

Griffin was the top finisher for the Eagles this weekend against Division opposition at the Navy Invitational, advancing all the way to the finals of his bracket. He defeated Blaise Castleberry of Delaware, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-0, then topped Mac Rechan of Georgetown, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. He then beat Tucker Massey of Navy, 7-5, 6-3, before falling in the final to Elliott Loubataille of UMBC, 6-2, 6-3.
