Christopher Newport Freshman Jessica Lee Secures CAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport freshman Jessica Lee was honored as the CAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Oct. 18, 2016.

Christopher Newport freshman Jessica Lee earned CAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this year after winning the non-Division I portion of the CNU Invitational. Lee registered the Captains' top time in the 6k at 23:10, defeating all non-Division I opponents and posting the 10th-fastest mark by any competitor, including the 37 Division I runners. Guided by Lee's efforts, CNU notched a perfect score of 15 to win the non-Division I competition.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

The CAC Championship is set for Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Hershey Entertainment Complex in Hershey, Pa., with Penn State Harrisburg as the host institution ... All 10 CAC squads have completed their fall regular seasons, and will be idle this week in preparation for the conference meet ... Frostburg State junior Faith Thackston powered the Bobcats to a fifth-place finish out of 14 teams at the 2016 Hood College XC Open. Thackston finished in 12th place in a season-best 24:44. It was the third-straight meet that she has finished as the Bobcats' top finisher ... Mary Washington sophomore Jillian Weisbeck finished 12th overall at the Gettysburg Invitational, at 23:52, as the Eagles finished ninth among 25 schools ... Marymount sophomore Denise Gallant led the Saints to a 12th-place team finish out of 25 teams at the Gettysburg Invitational. Gallant took 54th place in a time of 25:04 ... St. Mary's sophomore Halcyon Ruskin was the first Seahawk to cross the finish line to assist St. Mary's in their 3rd place team finish at the Hood Open. Ruskin completed the 6K with a time of 25:27 - placing 22nd out of 119 runners ... Salisbury junior Alison Schwartz placed first among all Sea Gull runners and finished 10th overall (23:43.8) at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. Schwartz beat out all other CAC runners and helped the Sea Gulls finish fifth as a team in the 25-team race ... Southern Virginia's Kaitlyn Garcia finished the 6K Gettysburg Invitational with a time of 25:10 ... York senior Kathleen Cannon led the Spartans to a sixth-place finish of 21 teams at the Connecticut College Invitational in Waterford, Conn. on Saturday. Cannon was York's top finisher in 30th place with a time of 22.51.3.
